Prashanthi Balamandira Trust manages and operates 21 Educational Campuses (and an additional 6 Campuses through its allied Trusts) from Grade Six till Doctoral studies in the 19 districts of Karnataka, 1 district of Telangana and 1 district of Tamil Nadu, at absolutely no cost towards education. This group of Campuses have adopted a way of education that is deeply rooted in the ancient Indian wisdom of Gurukula education, where the students and teachers lived together like a family. The teacher/ Guru imparted the knowledge and skills required for a living, and more importantly enlightened the students on the eternal wisdom of one’s true nature that helped them see unity in diversity, oneness in the manyness. Such students were not only intellectually sharp, but were also good, kind, helpful and wise.
This is the idea behind the educational mission of PBT. Thus, the group of Campuses are rightly named as the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam Group of Institutions. They are residential Campuses set in naturalistic settings in the rural hinterlands of the country, and prioritises admission for rural and urban poor. The Campuses are located amidst India’s most backward and rusty villages, and offers a safe, secure, and clean place to live and learn. It provides accessibility to education for children, who would otherwise have no access. ‘Education for All’ without any discrimination based on caste, gender, geography, language, and religion promotes equality and forms as a stepping stone towards poverty alleviation. In fact, many children studying at the Campuses, both boys and girls, are first generation literates, and thus come from families who never had a chance to see the brighter side of life, by being the recipients of even the most fundamental necessities like food, shelter, health, and education.
Girls’ education is given as their prerogative and PBT currently operates 9 campuses for girls from Grade Six till Doctoral studies.
A child who joins at Grade Six, can continue in the Institution until undergraduate studies, do an internship in one of the Campuses, or at the administrative/ Trust offices in various capacities for two to three years, and can join back for postgraduate studies and doctoral studies, for no expenses at all throughout their educational spell. The Campuses absorb such fully-blossomed students back into their system as teachers and administrators, based on their volition and interest. The Human Resource sustainability of the Campuses is thus taken care of in a way.
True education shines in the beauty of the spirit and of highest wisdom. It is the effulgence that permeates a full life and that which leads every human towards the attainment of his real nature through purification and sublimation of his consciousness. The modern society is producing students and professionals with information-based knowledge, rather than transformational knowledge. This has resulted in overt acts of violence, unrest, lack of peace and understanding, in the society. Thus, any amount of knowledge transfer will not be successful, if it does not help with translating values into a daily reality.
Hence, the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam Group of Institutions has taken an earnest step to help children develop the right behaviour which would create joy and happiness in their lives and in the lives of those around them. Education experts define the most important skills for the 21st century students of a global society, as the 4 Cs – critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. But, Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam considers the 5th C – character over and above the 4 Cs, and as the most important. Simply put, ‘Character’ is the ability to do the right thing always.
Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam has a child-centric, balanced and insightful approach, where learning is truly a joy. The Gurukulam imparts free values-based, integral and spiritual education that helps build character in the children and make them selfless servitors of the society.

There are four aspirational characteristics that will be displayed by an individual who has passed through the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam System of Education. They are:
1. sarve jñānōpa sampannaḥ (सर्वे ज्ञानोपसंपन्नाः)
Knowledge about all the subjects and skills concerning the world
• Academic excellence pertaining to subject knowledge
• Life skills like communication, technology, inter-personal relations, cooking, maintenance, driving etc.
2. sarve samuditā guṇaihi (सर्वे समुदित गुणै:)
Repositories of all the good qualities that emanate spontaneously.
• Love, kindness, compassion, dutifulness, discipline, patriotism, service-mindedness etc.
3. sarve vedavidaḥ dhīrāḥ (सर्वे वेदविदःधीराः)
Knowledge about ancient Indian wisdom - the Bharathiya culture
• Study of spiritual texts and philosophies
• Practical application of Vedic wisdom in everyday life by discriminating between right and wrong
4. sarve lōkahite ratāḥ (सर्वे लोकहिते रताः)
